arflex; publication Higashikawa: Five Chairs
A chair with a highly rational structure using molded plywood for the frame.
Description
One hallmark of a masterpiece chair is longevity. Long-selling products are not created overnight; they emerge through sustained collaboration between designer, manufacturer, and retailer, and are ultimately validated by continued user support. Products that remain in production for over 25 years can truly be called long sellers. This dining chair is one of the few Japanese chairs to achieve that status.
Its molded plywood frame provides structural strength while forming gentle curves that fit the body, allowing comfortable seating over long periods. A related model with a leather-tape seat (NT) received the 2009 Good Design Long Life Design Award.
