Description

The International Science and Technology Exposition, commonly known as Tsukuba Expo ’85, was held in 1985 in Tsukuba Science City under the overarching theme “Human, Habitat, Environment, and Science and Technology.” Alongside many designers who participated in the project—including Ikko Tanaka, who designed the official logo—Takenobu Igarashi was first involved through a nomination-based logo competition and was subsequently commissioned to design the official poster. In this design resource, Igarashi’s distinctive graphic approach—typographic expression based on axonometric projection—is fully realized. At the center of the composition, the three-dimensional letters spelling “EXPO” are depicted as if peeled apart, revealing their internal structures on each face and emphasizing the letters’ object-like presence.
