The world’s first “clear glass type LED bulb” showing the light source
Description
With the reduction of energy consumption becoming a global issue, expectations for “LED bulbs,” which enable significant energy savings simply by replacing conventional incandescent bulbs, have been extremely high. In response, in 2011, we developed the world’s first LED light source similar to the filament of an incandescent light bulb that diffuses light in all directions. Thanks to our technological expertise, we were able to achieve high energy-saving performance and a long life of 40,000 hours, in addition to the industry’s No. 1 brightness at the time.
In converting the clear-type light bulb, which is in high demand worldwide, to LED using this new light source, we dared to use the same form and warm light distribution characteristics as those of conventional incandescent bulbs. This allows the new light source to replace a variety of lighting fixtures and lighting styles used around the world without compromising their image, thereby accelerating the replacement of energy-saving light bulbs on a global scale.
Rather than simply changing the design to match the evolution of devices, we insisted on maintaining the original shape, size, color, and light quality of the light bulbs that have built a long history. By realizing this commitment with new technology, we have realized our desire to connect the “culture of light” in our daily lives to the future with careful craftsmanship. The design of this LED light bulb is based on the uniquely Japanese concept of being “earth-friendly and people-friendly” and “using things with care.
