The “round obi” is the most prestigious and luxurious type of obi, with a pattern that is applied to the entire belt and also appears on the reverse side when it is tailored into an obi. In recent years, however, production of this type of obi has been greatly reduced due to problems of usage and price. This obi, in particular, has been carefully produced with meticulous attention to design, and is a valuable piece that will have very few opportunities to be produced in this class of obi in the future.

Description

This is a fabric for a round obi with the auspicious and auspicious “Takarazukushi” pattern, which is based on a shiny light brown base with a hobishi pattern expressed in gold foil as a ground pattern, accented with gold thread and interwoven with “Ten Kinds of Treasure” in a subdued color scheme.

Ten Kinds of Treasure

Hiding umbrella, hiding straw mat: to hide and protect oneself from danger.

Chouji: precious medicine from the southern barbarians, good health and longevity

Houjyu: an esoteric Buddhist ritual object called “Nyoi Houju,” which grants wishes at will.

Uchide-no-Kozuchi: to make wishes come true, to strike enemies

Kinpu: a drawstring bag for money and treasures

Houkan: symbol of knowledge and wisdom

Weights: weighing gold, symbol of wealth

Seven treasures: seven treasures in the Lotus Sutra
